Cleaning Out the Closet
Cleaning out your closet can be overwhelming but the end result is rewarding. If you have time, pull everything out of your closet so you can evaluate each item.
1. Clear out your closet.
Pull out all items and set up 3 different piles. You should have three piles; keep, sell and donate.
2. Evaluate each item.
Try on each item. Ask yourself if you love it (if it's just OK then what is the point in keeping it?) See below.
3. Sort the items.
Place donations (dated items, things with minor damages, etc.) in a garbage bag for donation. Place the items you want to keep back in your closet. The remaining items that are worth reselling (still in-style, great condition, good quality, etc.) fold neatly and place in a box or basket or keep on hangers and book an appointment at Chique & Unique to sell on consignment!
How to Decide What to Keep
1. If it doesn't fit, get rid of it.
This is why you try on items... Is it comfortable? Can you move in it? If it doesn't fit, get rid of it! Items you decide to tailor, make sure you do this within a couple weeks.
2. Did you buy it in 2005?
Older items that you no longer wear (or should wear) are taking up prime real estate in your closet. Donate anything that is out of style and make room for the items you are going to wear!
3. Do you love it?
This is the biggest question we ask people. Do you love it? Or is it something you will put on and change out of before leaving the house? Because, let's be honest, we have all done that and there is no sense in keeping pieces we 'will one day wear'.
4. The 'One Year Rule'
If you haven't worn it in over a year, you probably won't. Either donate it or if it's worth reselling, bring it to Chique!
*Try the hanger challenge; turn all your hangers one way and once you have worn an item turn the hanger the other way. Any items (after a year) on the hangers that haven't been flipped, get rid of them!
